Fanny Morris

My great great grandmother Fanny couldn't read or write so at her wedding with James Mills, a nailmaker from Cirencester, she put a big cross. To this day, Fanny remains a mistery to me as I can't find her birthrecord, I am stuck! So what do I know? Well, in the 1841 England Census she was a three year old living in the household of Sarah Morris (45) in Sweet Briar Street, Gloucester. With them were Elizabeth (25), Elenor (20), John (15) Labourer, Mary (14), Margrett (12), Sarah Ann (9), and Julia (2), all were born in Gloucestershire. Apart from John, none of the ladies have an occupation listed. In the census of 1851 she is 12, and still living with Sarah born in Dymock, who apparently is her grandmother. The family is living in the same Gloucester parish of St. John the Baptist but are now on Union Street. Sarah is a laundress as are some of her daughters. The only son John is now a sawyer and married to Hannah. Daughter Mary has married Thomas Lapington, a butcher and Margrett has married Richard Simmons a baker. Still no clues as to Fanny's parents, allthough she might be an illegitimate child to one of Sarah's daughters, as Julia mentioned in the 1841 census is the daugher of Eleanor, born 3 Jul 1839, around the same year that Fanny was born. Apart from the eldest daughter in this family who was born in Ruardean, all the other members are listed as born in Gloucester. I can not find the family in 1861, but on the 27th Dec 1864 she marries James Mills, with whom she reappears in the census of 1871 with their first born daughter Maudy M., they are living in the same parish in Gloucester on Oxford Street
