In Memoriam

Today I would like to draw your attention to the book
‘In Memoriam’ by Guus Luijters and Aline Pennewaard.

This book contains a list of all 17.964 Jewish, Roma and Sinti children that were deported from the Netherlands between 1942 and 1945. Of every child it’s name, date and place of birth and the address are listed as well as the place and date of death.

Photographs of 3.000 children have been found and added to the book.
This is a chilling tribute to a group of murdered children in one of the darkest periods in the history of Europe.1

Exhibition

In Memoriam

Accompanying this book is an exhibition in the Amsterdam City Archives, where the story of fifteen of the children is told by a display of transportlists and documents from the archives such as familycards and reports of stolen bicycles.

The exhibition runs from 10 February to 20 May 2012.2

The aim of both the book and the exhibition is to restore the identity of these children by giving them a face.
